Whose Serve

Every autumn brings cuffing season: views of the Wikipedia article on it more than tripled from the first week of September to the second week of October 2026 (Wikimedia pageviews). More first matches, more threads to read between the lines of.

Whose serve is it - and what is a good next shot?

Paste a text thread with someone you are dating or just matched with. It becomes a rally on a clay court: who opens, who asks, who writes more, who double-texts, and who the ball is with now. One run reads the back-and-forth - quoting the thread, never guessing past it - and drafts three replies that fit what you want.

Try one:

1 The thread

Times and dates in front are fine ("[10/18/26, 7:02 PM] Sam: ..."). A blank line, a date line or a gap of 6 hours starts a new rally. Only two people. Nothing leaves your browser until you run a read.

Or drop a .txt export -

The verdict follows a fixed rule: wait if you have sent 3 or more messages since their last; you-carry if you carry 65% or more; they-carry if you carry 35% or less; even otherwise. The read quotes your thread word for word, names no app, and adds nothing the thread and your notes do not say.

How the court is worked out

Each line that starts with a name and a colon is a message; a line without one joins the message above it. A rally starts at the top, after a blank line or a date line, or after a gap of 6 hours or more between stamped messages, and the first message of each rally is its serve. Two or more messages in a row inside one rally are a double hit; a message with a question mark is a question. The carry share averages three shares of yours - the words, the questions, and (when there are two or more rallies) the serves - so 50% is an even split. These thresholds are a rough rule of thumb, an estimate of effort on the page, not a measure of anyone's feelings. Line calls are plain word patterns run over their messages: a hit is a reason to look twice, not proof of anything. Everything here is arithmetic on the text you pasted.
